Another World by Lee Jung Nam…

‘‘ I Wanted to Share Pain and Love… ‘‘

September 11, 2001

When terror struck America. Lee Jung Nam told the onlookers to write their feelings and thoughts on the drawing that he had just finished the day before as a way to preserve their cherished memories and pained feelings. Many people did and the passion, which is captured by this drawing, began to appear. Gradually, as three thousands of people gathered. the drawing became an enormous card filled with the thoughts and recollections the people most directly affected by this catasrophe. Lee Jung Nam states, '‘ The World Trade Center was a private memory to me. to Manhattan it was a huge statue. ‘‘ Lee Jung Nam put the drawing, entitled Another World on display in Union Square on September 15, 2001. Through this drawing, everyone was able to share their pain and hold the burden together. Lee Jung Nam remarks, “ T of that, wehe Twin Towers had many memories and a lot of people’s love and because of that, we should never forget the World Trade Center. ‘‘ Mr. Lee had been working on Another World for three months when the terrible horror struck. ‘‘ The World Trade Center was the heart and soul of my painting. ‘‘ Within an hour, the terrorists destroyed the twin towers and the hopes and aspirations of all the people who worked there. ‘‘ Three thousand New Yorkers are saddened by the people who passed away and their family members. While New York was crying, Mr. Lee was right with them sharing their sorrows.

Neither the number of people represented by this picture nor their age or culture is what is important about this picture. It is shared longing for love and freedom, which is represented by the World Trade Center that brings them all together.
